Deck screws generally are not a horribly exciting product, but the new Proferred Max Drive deck screws changes that by bringing tons of new innovation and technology to the game.
One of the main highlights here is that these are not expensive screws. There is nothing worse than finding a great product that meets all your needs but that they price themselves out of your budget. Max Drive screws are very cost effective, extremely high-quality and available at Monster Bolts.
Tip to Drive
- Tip – Starting with the tip of the screw, these offer a sharp needle point tip that has serrated self-cutting threads that bite into the wood. The serrations cut their own thread for fast, easy installations with greatly reduced fatigue. That is something you don’t feel at the start of the day, but by the end of a long day, you will appreciate how easy these are to install consistently and accurately.
- Reverse ‘Alterna-Thread’ section of the screw to pull down secondary wood layer (decking) to main layer when driving. This works for both decking and fencing applications to prevent gaps between the wood layers.
- Undercut ribs (4 Nibs) at the base of the head for clean self-countersinking. These act to cleanly cut the recess for the screw head to countersink into your decking.
- Extra Deep Drive Engagement – 6 Lobe Max Drive recess with great embedment depth for maximum driver and screw engagement. This helps your screw not slip out and helps you drive that screw in straight and solid reliably and consistently.
Extremely durable SKT Coating
All of this innovation and technology would be useless if these Max Drive screws weren’t finished with one of the best finishes available. The SKT coating offers an absurd 1500 hour salt spray test finish that is fully ACQ compliant for use with ACQ treated lumber. A list of other coatings is below for reference:
Coating | Salt Spray Test*
Black Oxide | 24 hrs. | |
Black Phosphate | 48 hrs.
Clear or yellow Zinc | 24 hrs.
Yellow Zinc .0003 | 180 hrs.
Dacrotized® | 500 hrs. | |
Ruspert® | 1000 hrs. | |
SKT – Max Drive | 1500 hrs. |
Black Oxide – A conversion coating used to add mild corrosion resistance and for appearance.
Black Phosphate – A conversion coating used to add mild corrosion resistance and for lubricity.
Clear of Yellow Zinc – A coating that is applied electrically to fasteners that prevents oxidation of steel by forming a protective barrier.
Yellow Zinc .0003 micron – A coating that is applied electrically to fasteners that prevents oxidation of steel by forming a protective barrier.
Dacrotized® – An immersion zinc flake/chromate dispersion coating with medium corrosion protection.
Ruspert® – A high-grade metal surface processing technology that prevents corrosion. The coating system consists of three layers: a metallic zinc layer, a high-grade anti-corrosion chemical conversion film, and a baked ceramic surface coating.
